Yes the bluetooth option works, you will be the first I know of to use it. You have to pair up the module and computer, and are restricted to 9600 baud. It will all come down to the range I expect..

Looks like they will need 3.3V supply and 5V->3V dividers.
I've ordered one from a UK supplier with the PCB antenna.

These modules from Banggood have ceramic antenna and connector for external.
I found a site where a lot of information about the modules http://www.esp8266.com/
