Like you say, it makes little difference whether the tube is UV sensitive or not provided you know in advance and precautions are taken to avoid false readings. I was referring to comments on a Dosimetry blog post from Feb15th 2025 (
here
) although I'm not sure where he gets his facts from. Google translation from Polish is not great.. The table comparing relative sensitivity of a range of counters to a variety of nucleides is interesting and suggests the tube used in the YRG01 is sensitive.

Outstanding review and hack.
SO perhaps I missed it but does it support a COM port when plugged into a PC so we can interface to RADMON or was that the reason for the hack?

No but it has Bluetooth, although no app at present. The hack allows upload to Radmon, it's a great improvement.

The mod I performed added additional WiFi capability and using the ESPGeiger firmware everything is preprogrammed and configured, and all it needs to submit to radmon (and MQTT et al) are WiFi details and a radmon username and password.
Does it have COM port support? Yes and no. The mod I performed did not have that in mind, so I never added a port connector for this. However, the ESPGeiger firmware does send the CPM out over serial every second, just like the NetIO GC10 and others. As the mod is just a bare ESP-12 module the serial output is TTL at 3.3v, so adding a TTL <--> USB (or RS232) adapter onto the ESP-12 module will enable it to be connected to a PC or other device.

That was an interesting read. Confirms much of what I have found. From my understanding of the article, the author is referring to the unit as a whole being light sensitive, not necessarily just the tube. Also if you notice in the pictures, there is no UV film over the tube and the top comment mentions this and that their counter did have the UV film. My take of this is, as I have already suggested, there was an early batch that went out without the UV film and enabled the LEDs to work as designed. Somewhere they changed tubes, knowingly or unknowingly, and they ended up with a bunch of light sensitive tubes, so the fixed it using the UV film. Either that, or they simply didn't know the tube was light sensitive from the start.I was referring to comments on a Dosimetry blog post from Feb15th 2025 ( here ) although I'm not sure where he gets his facts from. Not quite true. The stock unit has bluetooth BLE, however there is no app, nor can I get it to work by bluetooth serial. Essentially the BLE is useless. No but it has Bluetooth, although no app at present. The hack allows upload to Radmon, it's a great improvement.

Hi, i was searching the internet for updates abou the YAOREA YRG01 device, which the "latest" i found of are from four months ago. Do you perhaps happen to know what happened to the Bluetooth function, which was supposed to be implemented? Thanks.

Hi kartofelus, I know literally nothing about the Bluetooth (BLE) function on this counter. I have checked everything on the manufacturer's website and there is no mention of the Bluetooth feature whatsoever. There is nothing in the manual and I haven't been able to find anything on the web. When I try and connect to it from my phone it says that a specific app is required for it and I can't connect Bluetooth serial from my PC either. So I literally have no idea if it even does anything. Sorry I can't be any further help, but this Bluetooth on this counter is a mystery.
